Teen accused of assaulting grandmother to be tried as adult

My article is about A seventeen year old girl, Jabreria Handy, who attendes Samuel L. Banks high school, accused of assaulting her grandmother so severely that the 69-year old woman had a heart attack and died moments later. Jabreria Handy will be tried as an adult on a charge of murder. Jabreria has been suspended nine times during the last two school years, once for throwing a large textbook into a door, causing glass to break and scatter over a teacher's arm. Handy also had refused to attend counseling and had been diagnosed with oppositional defiance disorder. Handy had been accused of threatening to kill a teacher's cats on the same day police allege she pushed her grandmother onto a bed, got on top of her and held her down until the her brother pulled her off.

When I first read this article, I was really suprised and shock not that I knew her or anything but the fact that a child would actually do somethng like this to an elder/family member. I also believe that she was a bad child or she had behavior problems as a child thats why she was living with her grandmother.

This would have an impact on many people in the families life. I say this beacuse if her mother's friend know about this, this may scare her and her friends may not even want to talk to her again. People might judge her and their family.

Alonso proposes school closings, mergers and job cuts

My article is about Baltimore schools chief Andrés Alonso huge reorganization plan to close failing schools and expand successful ones. This plan would affect about three dozen schools and thousands of students. Part of his plan includes William H. Lemmel Middle, would close, giving a charter school in the building room to expand and creating space for a new alternative school to open. Laurence G. Paquin Middle/High, which for more than 40 years has educated pregnant girls and teen mothers but is severely under enrolled, would merge with another alternative school that needs more space. Digital Harbor High, would both expand as NAF moves out of the Digital Harbor building. NAF would absorb the student body of struggling Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle to become a combined middle/high school. Staff at the schools recommended to close - including Harriet Tubman Elementary, Thurgood Marshall High, Samuel L. Banks High and Homeland Security Academy.

In my opinion, I believe that this plan should've been done along time ago. I think all the schools that were always known for fires, fights, shootings just unexceptable behavior should've been close, for example, Thurgood Marshall. I also believe that this may not also be a good plan because some schools may not really be bad or cause the behavior that they may show on the news.

This plan would have a huge impact on the students attending the schools because many kids may feel comfortable where they are at.

Minn. School Adds Skateboarding to Curriculum

My article is about at an Elementary school being the first in the state to learn to skate as part of their physical education classes. Battling a national childhood obesity crisis, educators and curriculum creators alike saw a need to structure physical education around activities kids can take home with them and do after school in lieu of spending hours texting and surfing web sites like Facebook. Kids are more likely to stay active if they're introduced to a sport or activity they like. The school brought 30 sets of skateboards, pads, and helmets for the skateboarding classes, the equipment and boards for 20 students cost at least $3,000, but the company is working to help match schools with grant programs to help cover the cost.

My reaction to this is that I believe that this is a unique and good idea for someone to have thought of this. I believe this is a good idea because just like in the passage, it's an activity that kids can do instead of texting, getting on facebook or into trouble, especially if they like to do it. In some cases, this may not be a good idea because if one child gets hurt, a parent may cause an arguement talking about
"Why would you put skateboarding in physical education classes where you know they would get hurt"

This situation would impact many people in the world because many parents may enroll their child into the school. This would also impact other schools because they might also think it's a good idea and try to get the same thing. This would aslo impact the kids in the school because they might think it's a cool thing and ask their principal if they can get that in their school, they might also transfer.

3 city officers charged in beating of teen and cover-up

My article is about a Balimore police officer and two retired officers who have been indicted on federal civil rights and obstruction of justice charges in the beating of a 17-year-old boy five years ago and its cover-up. In 2005 officer Gregory M. Mussmacher 34, was found guilty by a Baltimore Circuit Court judge of misdemeanor assault and misconduct in office for striking the teen in an incident in late April 2004. Benjamin Ruben Rowland, now 22, was arguing with his sister at their former home on Glengyle Avenue in Baltimore. She called police, and among the officers responding was Mussmacher, who arrived late to the scene and took charge, questioning Rowland. When the teenager complained about his handcuffs, Mussmacher is alleged to have handed his service weapon and badge to another officer, uncufffed the teen and challenged him to a fight, which the youth declined. Mussmacher then sprayed him with pepper spray and hit him in the face with a baton before transferring him to the Northwest District station. There, Officer Guy Gerstel, now retired, hit the teenager in the back with a pool stick from a recreation room and then lied about it to the FBI and on the witness stand, court papers allege. Sgt. Wayne Thompson, also now retired, is charged with obstructing justice, accused of writing a false statement and persuading other officers not to fill out required reports.

My reaction to this is that I believe that most police officers don't know how to talk to people. They think that just because them being the "POLICE" they can do what ever they want and say whatever they want to anybody; but thats not true. The boy in this situation was smart about it because if it was me, I would've been fighting him back.

This would impact thhe society because people would look at the police different and they would probably try to do smart stuff to piss them off.

Man charged with filming tanning teens

My article is about a 48-year-old man, David Russell Brown was arrested night after officers searched his home and found the camera and video recordings. Two girls, ages 17 and 15, had told police they found a video camera hidden in a brown cardboard box during a recent visit to use the tanning booth. Police say the video shows one of the teens nude and the other partially clothed. A 14-year-old girl was also found on the video. Brown told police he hid the camera to catch whoever had been stealing beer from a refrigerator in the shed. Brown was charged with three counts of video voyeurism. He was released on $30,000 bail.

If I was one of these two girl's, I would be scared right now, even though he didn't touch me or anything, I would be scared, even to see him again, to be in his neighborhood, to see his house, his family or anything to do with him. This would be with you for a life long time, something you will always remember and something you might not ever let go of.

This would impact David's family because people might look at them different, they might not accept them. This would impact the society because people would be more careful of the things they do

Bethlehem Township man takes deal in teen party row

A Bethlehm Township man was charged after racy photos of Freedom High School students boozing and dancing at a stripper pole in his home became public will plead guilty to some of the charges, his attorney said. Steven A. Russo, 36, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges stemming from the Dec. 12 party and photos that surfaced at school. He agreed to plead guilty to selling or furnishing alcohol to minors, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors, said defense attorney John Waldron. According to police, not long after Russo was charged with harassing and stalking the mother of another son of his, he hosted the party at his 15th Street home where he gave teens alcohol. He was charged in February after photos of students, one in her cheerleader uniform, drinking and dancing at a stripper pole were traced to the party. Russo's son is a student at Freedom. Students told police Russo hosted numerous parties in his home and set aside a room, known as "the cave," for teens to have sex in. Russo is awaiting trial in Northampton County on charges of stalking, harassment and resisting arrest involving an Oct. 29 incident in Betlehem Township with Jessica Clapso, who has a son with Russo.

I think that this man was drunk and he coudn't control hiself. He probably thought this was a good idea to have fun with the kids but the police thought differently. If he wasn't drunk then I think he thought he was going to get way with it what he was doing because he kne what he was doing wasn't right but he still decided to do it anyway.

This would impact the kids in the school because, you never know, they probably had fun and they are probably mad right now. This would impact his son who attends Freedom Academy because people will probably talk about him and his father.

City police blame powerful gang for killing

My article is about three teenage girls and one boy who was arrested for their alleged roles in the crime. The 20 year old man, Petro Taylor, had failed to drop off $200 to a gang leader named "Sincere". Taylor was beaten in a room at the Red Carpet Inn, in the 5800 block of Reisterstown Road, where gang members had gathered for a party. Taylor was taken to Leakin Park and was stabbed several times, then doused in gasoline and set on fire. Two days later, someone working on a sewer line in the park found his body and called police.
Grechauna Rogers, 16, was arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder and related offenses. At her bail review hearing, officials said she had no prior criminal history as an adult or a juvenile. Sierra Pyles, 19, was picked up and charged with first-degree murder. Tenisha Lawson, 18 and 23-year-old Anthony O. Williams, were also charged.

I believe that the sixteen year old girl was following around everyone else because of the fact that she don't have any prior criminal history as an adult or a juvenile. I think people have to watch what they do

This would impact society because people would have to watch the agreements that they make with people. This would also impact society because people might not feel comfortable telling people things.
